Today’s recap of my favorite images of 2017 is all about the details. From sparkly rings to delicious cakes - it’s no secret that one of my favorite parts of any wedding is photographing your details. The little things matter and this blog post is proof.
1.) Danna's Stunning Ring
Why I love it: As Danna got ready in the bedroom of her mountainside cabin she and her family rented for the weekend, I snuck outside to grab a few photos of her and Tyler’s rings. Their wedding was full of natural elements - mountains and waterfalls to name a couple - so I felt a strong pull to the massive pine tree that stood on the front lawn of the cabin. Just as I finished shooting this exact shot - rain started to absolutely POUR from the sky and Zach and I had to run inside. It was worth it.
2.) Erynn's Wedding Dress
Why I love it: Erynn got ready for her wedding day at her parents’ house, her childhood home. As I focused my lens on her beautiful dress I couldn’t help but think about all of those times Erynn walked through that very door and never knew that one day her own wedding gown would hang there on the very day she married the love of her life.
3.) Breana's Details
Why I love it: I always like to include your perfume when I photograph details. Why? Because to me, it’s just as important as the earrings or shoes you pick out! It’s always surprising to me how often I’m taken back in time when I smell a certain scent, and your wedding day perfume is no different. The right perfume can take you and your groom right back to your wedding day instantly and I am certain Breana’s Marc Jacob’s perfume will do just that for years to come.
4.) Josh and Scott's Rings
Why I love it: I love that the rings are in focus while Josh and Scott are in the background. To me, it shows the importance of what the rings stand for. Plus, Josh and Scott went along with my strange request for them to hold their rings in such a weird way and didn’t question me once. Thanks guys!
5.) Kirby's Personal Brooch Bouquet
Why I love it: Kirby’s brooch bouquet was just perfection. But not only was it colorful and beautiful, it was covered in brooches that are nods to various parts of Kirby’s life. How cool is that? An Alice in Wonderland charm for the musical she recently co-directed, a cross in honor of her faith, or a music note to represent her biggest passion - no matter where you looked you could find different parts of her and I could not stop looking at it!
6.) Travis and Samantha's Balancing Rings
Why I love it: Just outside the door to the suite where Samantha and her girls were getting ready, sunlight just poured in from a window in a quiet hallway of the Ironworks Hotel. After getting a couple more traditional ring shots, I wanted to do something a little different and balanced the rings to create an infinity symbol in this shot. This proved to be absolutely perfect because just moments later Samantha opened a gift from Travis - a breathtaking infinity symbol necklace.
7.) Wendy's Bohemian Bouquet
Why I love it: Wendy’s bouquet was filled with bright colors, flowers of all shapes and my personal favorite - silver dollar eucalyptus. But what I also loved about her bouquet was that her florist, Lauren Brown of Woven blooms grows a lot of her own flowers, an eco-friendly take on the floral industry. But what’s more - she donates 10% of her profits to the Indianapolis Humane Society in her Petals for Paws program. Beautiful, eco friendly and for a good cause? Yes please!
8.) Travis and Michael's Elegant Cake
Why I love it: Travis and Michael’s wedding day was full of one amazing surprise for their guests after another. But the showstopper was their elegant cake. Simple, stunning, tasteful and just perfect for the happy couple. Looking at this photo I can still feel the energy of that evening - it was truly an incredible backyard wedding that I’d live again if I could!
9.) Rachael's Sentimental Bouquet
Why I love it: Rachael’s bouquet was stunning enough as it is, but Rachael didn’t stop there. She took things up a notch by taking a piece of her grandmother’s dress and wrapping it around her bouquet. How perfect is that? Between Rachael, her sister Emily and their mom, Ginger - I cannot get enough of the Brown family’s creativity! Love it!
10.) Angie's Kate Spade Glitter Shoes
Why I love it: I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty obsessed with all things Kate Spade. So when Angie told me about her shoes I was super excited! They were sparkly and comfortable - what more could a bride want? Plus they helped Angie rock that dance floor at her reception. Talk about a win!
