When I look back on all of the incredible weddings that I had the honor of photographing in 2017, I am so thankful! Zach and I have had the opportunity to work with some wonderful couples and have shared in so much joy. Weddings are awesome, people!
That being said, one of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer is capturing the moments shared. Moments between couples, between families or even friends. Capturing real emotions on wedding days will always be my favorite part of being a wedding photographer and I want to take some time to celebrate those moments in this blog post!
Each wedding we photographed over the last year is special in thousands of ways, so narrowing it down to just ten was really tricky! However these ten moments really stood out to me and I can’t wait to relive them! There is no order to these as they are all wonderful in their own way! Here we go!
1.) Kirby Getting Ready with Her Girls
What I love about it: This bridal party was SO MUCH FUN! In fact, I’m pretty certain I left with this wedding with twelve new best friends and I just love it! The energy in the room while Kirby was getting ready was so good. Music was playing and people were singing. Each bridesmaid stepped in to help Kirby whenever she needed it and it wasn’t uncommon for a loud burst of giggles to take over the room. Kirby even twirled around while everyone gushed over her bridal gorgeousness. Talk about a fun way to prepare to walk down the aisle!
2.) Breana + Her Favorite Flower Girl
Why I love it: Breana selected her sweet niece to be her flower girl and all day long I’d catch her stealing glances at Breana. You could tell that she was totally in awe of her! Plus Breana went out of her way to make her feel special through out the wedding. These two share an incredible bond and I am so happy to have had the chance to capture it on camera!
3. Erynn + Danny Being Showered with Love
Why I love it: It was the end of the evening. Soon the lights would turn on and the music would stop. Erynn and Danny were surrounded on the dance floor by their very best friends and their closest family members. Their wedding had a travel theme and they had included this incredible confetti cut out of maps. I love this shot because not only can you see the joy between the bride and groom, but also the joy on their friends’ faces!
4.) Callie + Brent's Sweet Moves
Why I love it: We were racing the setting sun as we finished up their bride and groom portraits. Brent couldn’t contain his joy and this was the result. I love that it captures how happy he was to be marrying Callie! Who could blame him?
5.) Wendy Putting On Her Dress
Why I love it: Wendy was surrounded by incredible ladies on her wedding day. Not long after they arrived at the church, Wendy’s mother helped her into her dress while her bridesmaids watched. Wendy beamed as she looked at herself in the floor length mirror to her right, and her bridesmaids looked on - totally happy for their friend, a gorgeous bride. It was a really special thing to witness.
6.) Zach's Favorite Flower Girl
Why I love it: Sometimes flower girls don’t want to go down the aisle at all. This was certainly not the case at Angie and Zach’s wedding. In fact, their flower girl and niece loves Zach so much that she ran down the aisle and kept right into his arms! Everyone in attendance laughed and smiled. It was easily one of the cutest wedding moments I have ever seen!
7.) Corinne's First Look with Her Dad
Why I love it: Oh my goodness, this moment was EVERYTHING! After a few sentimental moments spent with her mama after putting on her dress, Corinne was escorted by her mother for a very special father daughter first look. Tears were shed by everyone, me included, and the three of them took in the moment together. It was so sweet!
8.) Nate's First Look
Why I love it: This one goes out to Corinne and Nate’s wedding once again. But there was no way I could write this blog post and not include it. Nate’s first look at his beautiful bride was full of emotion. Tears welled in his eyes as his brother and best man put a supportive arm around him. It was one of the most perfect first looks of all time.
9.) Michael and Travis Enjoying Toasts
Why I love it: At first glance, this shot seems simple. But what I love about is that there they are, standing with their arms around one another, gazing out at table after table of the people they love most. Family members toast to the happy couple and guests held back happy tears. Sometimes this biggest moments are the smallest ones.
10.) Rachael's First Look with Her Grandmother
Why I love it: You’ve seen first looks with the groom. You might have even seen a first look with a parent. But have you seen a first look with a grandmother? This might be my new favorite wedding tradition and I have Rachael and her sister Emily (who did this last year!) to thank! Grandma Sue was just thrilled to see Rachael as a bride and enjoyed just taking the moment in. But what was even cooler was the Rachael had taken part of her grandmother’s dress and used it to wrap around her bouquet. What a special surprise!
