I’m a big fan of finding positivity in all aspects of life. I constantly look for the silver lining and love to laugh. So it’s no surprise that I am drawn to all of the fun and excitement that goes on at MainStage Theatre in my hometown of Anderson, Indiana. At the end of last summer I was fortunate enough to work with the Mainstage team to do some photos for their production of Alice in Wonderland (you can see those here) and it filled my heart with so much happiness to be apart of something so.. well… wonderful! When they asked me back to assist with the 2018 season I was overjoyed! This group is so full of talent, dedication, friendship and happiness - it’s hard to not be curious as to what they are up to and what they will create next!
Director Sara Fields shares:
I am so proud of this cast and crew they are making my job easy because they are so good. I Hate Hamlet is one of the funniest shows I have seen in a long time and I hope everyone will get a chance to come and enjoy!!! - Sara Fields, Director
Currently they are hard at work bringing a production of I Hate Hamlet by Paul Rudnick to life. From line run throughs, costume design and set building this team is incredible! If you’re not familiar with the production, it is packed full of comedy and let me just tell you: this cast can deliver those laughs! As we were shooting these photos my cheeks hurt from laughing, I can only imagine what it will be like in live action! Curious as to what I’m talking about? Here’s a quick description of the play:
A young and successful television actor relocates to New York where he rents a marvelous, gothic apartment. With his television career in limbo, the actor is offered the opportunity to play Hamlet onstage, but there's one problem: he hates Hamlet. His dilemma deepens with the entrance of John Barrymore's ghost who arrives intoxicated and in full costume to the apartment that once was his. The contrast between the two actors - the towering, dissipated Barrymore whose Hamlet was the greatest of his time, and Andrew Rally, the hot young television star - leads to a wildly funny duel over women, art, success, duty, television, and yes - the apartment.
I have not yet seen the play and I cannot wait to go, it sounds hilarious! Be sure to grab yourself a ticket! The show times are:
May 24th (7:30pm), May 25th (7:30pm) and May 26th (7:30pm) and June 1st (7:30pm), June 2nd (7:30pm) and June 3rd (3:00pm) of 2018. Tickets are available on the Mainstage website (click here to buy tickets) or by calling the box office at: 765-644-5111. I hope to see you there!
In the meantime, here's a sneak peek into the excitement! This cast and crew is a blast!
