Elegant Backyard Wedding | Indianapolis, Indiana | Travis + Michael
When Michael and Travis first described their wedding day ideas to me over our initial FaceTime call, I did my best to imagine what their ceremony and reception might look like. But I never imagined the beauty that was in store as I walked through the front door of their gorgeous Indianapolis home on Saturday afternoon.
Michael and Travis had thought of every detail. String lights drew your eye across the pool to the shimmering chandeliers that framed the space where the ceremony would take place in just a couple of hours. Fresh flowers in vases were placed carefully through out the yard and a bar and lounge area fit for a home decor magazine provided the perfect space for guests to relax. As friends and family started to arrive they were greeted by a glass of champagne as they found their seats, shaded by the tall trees that line Travis and Michael’s backyard.
Soon the ceremony began. Travis and Michael’s nieces were beautiful in their pastel dresses as they walked down the aisle ahead of their uncles and Travis’s sister, Tonya, did a phenomenal job officiating the sweet ceremony. Now one thing I have to say, is that it isn’t uncommon for me to get emotional during this part of weddings. I love each of my clients as friends so I tend to tear up here and there. However, this was easily one of the most beautiful ceremonies I’d ever photographed. Not just because you can see how much Michael and Travis love one another, but you can actually FEEL it. And what’s more, you can feel how loved they are by their friends and family. As I observed from behind the rows of chairs I saw that many of their guests were wiping tears of joy from their cheeks as well. Love is a beautiful thing, and let me tell you - Travis and Michael have found it.
After a champagne toast, Michael and Travis made it official with their first kiss as a married couple as everyone cheered! The handsome grooms greeted their guests with hugs and then we headed down the road to Second Presbyterian Church for some photos. Michael had raved about how stunning this church is and he was not kidding! We spent some time taking family photos and then some photos of the grooms together before heading back to the party.
As guests started to arrive for the reception, they were greeted by the most incredible charcuterie board I have ever seen - complete with house made potato chips! The team at Capital City Kitchen did a beautiful job! Michael and Travis even had a signature drink! Joined by their families, Travis and Michael made their appearance and immediately had their first dance. What I loved about their first dance is that they welcomed the bridal party to join them on the dance floor. It was so special! Speeches were up next. Michael’s dad gave a touching speech that honored Michael’s late mother. There was not a dry eye in sight.
A gorgeous dinner followed, served buffet style. Guests enjoyed grilled flank steak with radish-top pesto, moroccan spiced salmon with orange-cucumber labneh, rosemary- gorgonzola polenta and Indiana heirloom tomato and corn salad with fresh herbs and local goat cheese. It was an incredible dinner! And once again, a great example of how much care Michael and Travis put into the details of their special day.
As dusk fell, the twinkling string lights illuminated the dance floor and the party picked up speed. Travis and Michael cut their stunning cake and guests were invited to enjoy treats from the dessert table. The dance floor was packed as Travis and Michael danced under the stars, surrounded by their friends and family. It was the perfect late summer evening.
Congratulations Travis and Michael! Zach and I are so happy for both of you and wish you all the best!
A HUGE shoutout to Capital City Kitchen for the incredible food, Confectioneiress for the splendid cake and dessert table and to DJ Kevin Morgan!
