Jennifer and Kyle's Las Vegas and Red Rock National Conservation Area Destination Wedding. Las Vegas, Nevada.
When Kyle and Jennifer first told me that they had decided on having their wedding in Las Vegas on April Fools Day, I almost didn't believe them, especially when Jennifer pointed out that their initials spelled out "J/K." But soon enough I found myself being high-fived by a delightful Delta pilot named Peewee as we prepared for take off. Our destination? Vegas, baby!
The morning of the wedding, I woke up and immediately pressed the button next to the bed to open the curtains. (Vegas is fancy like that) As they slid around the curved windows behind my hotel bed, sunlight poured into my room. The sky was blue and the mountains were visible in the distance. It was the perfect day for a wedding.
I spent the first part of the morning with Kyle as he prepared for the day. One thing that was special about Kyle's suit was his pocket square. Always the jokester, Kyle's grandpa had worn overalls covered in cartoons and the words "Hee-Haw" to every family function. When he passed, Kyle's grandmother cut the overalls into pieces and saw to it that each grandchild receive one. Jen suggested that Kyle use his piece as a pocket square. It was perfect and it brought Kyle's sweet mom to tears when she realized what his pocket square was made of.
Another really special part of Kyle and Jen's wedding was that many of Kyle's family members were able to make it out to Vegas for the wedding. Zach and I were immediately welcomed by them and were treated like family. They are a warm and loving bunch and it was easy to see that Kyle gets his kindness and good humor honestly. The ladies of the family even helped Jen get ready! Jen had gone to culinary school in Las Vegas, and because her family was unable to attend, her dear friend Martha joined us for the wedding and even walked Jen down the aisle! Martha is incredible and I am so happy to have made a new friend! And speaking of friends, our shared friend, Hayley flew in from Colorado for the big day. We all had so much fun celebrating the happy couple together!
The ceremony was in one of the most beautiful locations I have ever seen! Set in a basin surrounded by mountains, a wooden deck extended out into the tall desert grass. Two trees framed the pathway, giving us just enough shade to forget about how hot it was and focus on the beauty of the moment. Kyle's awesome (and hilarious!) cousin Ang stood in as flower girl and his dad officiated. Following their sweet ceremony, Zach and I took off for the red rock with the bride and groom while everyone else returned to the hotel to freshen up.
As we drove around the scenic loop that takes you right by the massive red rock formations, I knew we simply HAD to find a way to get out onto them. Unfortunately a deep ravine ran between us and the rock. Just as we were approaching the end of the beautiful formations, we saw a path that wound its way down the ravine and out onto the rock. Kyle and Jen - being the adventurous couple that they are - agreed to go for a hike, wedding dress and all. I am so thankful that they did! We hiked down and then back up and eventually out onto these stunning red rocks. It was unlike anything I had ever seen! As I photographed them from across massive valleys and my voice echoed through the canyon, it all felt surreal.
After our desert photo session and a quick stop at one of Jen's favorite restaurants for some yummy food, we headed to the the Las Vegas Strip for some night time photos. We walked all up and down the strip, stopping in The Wynn, The Palazzo and The Venetian for some photos. The strip was packed and tourists shouted their congratulations to Kyle and Jennifer as we passed them.
It was an amazing destination wedding and one for the record books. Congratulations to Kyle and Jennifer and thank you so much for letting me capture your incredible day!
