When Zach and I decided that we wanted to buy a house, we decided that we wanted to really take our time and find a home that was our kind of perfect. For the last two years we spent evenings scouring the real estate apps, comparing homes and discussing where our ideal location would be. We researched school systems for future children, taxes and crime rates. We worked diligently on our credit and I picked up as much extra photography work as I could to add to our savings. There were times that it felt like we’d never get out of that tiny rental home with pastel yellow walls, but we patiently waited.
Perhaps it was because of all of those hours of researching or maybe it was just trusting our intuition, but the second we walked into the very first and only house we looked at - we knew it was meant to be ours. It had everything we were looking for, with the exception of a fence. But fences can be built. (More on that later.) Less than thirty days after putting an offer in, we closed on our first home!
We wasted no time after closing on the house to move right in. Over the weekend Zach and I were flooded with the love and generosity of our best friends and my dad who gave up their precious free time to help us settle in. Part of having two huskies means that a fence is an absolute must, so while the guys orchestrated the construction outside, the girls worked on finishing the massive kitchen island staining project along with tons of other miscellaneous tasks. It meant the world to us that our friends came to help us when it was crunch time. Because of their kindness, we were able to be fully settled by Monday, which was super important because I had my wisdom teeth removed on Tuesday (ouch!) and I needed to be able to rest. Due to some complications from said surgery, I have been stuck in bed longer than I had planned to be, so Zach has done an awesome job taking care of projects around the house and I am so thankful!
So far, we absolutely love it here! We love our new space, but we are most excited about the warm welcome we have received from our new neighbors! We cannot wait to get to know them and be apart of such a fun little group. We struck neighborhood gold I do believe. Plus, it seems that everyone on our street are dog lovers - so Nova and Willow will fit right in. We finally have most of our boxes unpacked and even put up our Christmas tree. We can’t wait to add some mid century modern flair to our trendy tri-level!
Zach and I could not be more thrilled to start off 2018 in our new home, in our new town. It’s our kind of perfect.
P.S. - If you are looking for a realtor, please let me know! We LOVED our realtor April. She is a total rockstar!
